Release Day For Growing Pains!

Today is the release day for my newest book. It’s called Growing Pains: Discovering God’s Character When We’re Hurting.

It’s been seven years since I last published anything (around 50 years in dog years, but who’s counting?). This book is different from anything I’ve ever done before. It’s not suspense fiction. It’s a personal story. It’s the raw, real story of the journey my wife and I have taken through chronic health issues in our marriage and our fight to keep faith in God amidst our pain.

A few months ago, I felt it was time to finally write our story. This little book is what emerged. If you’ve ever struggled with pain and grief, or you know someone who has, I hope maybe our story will encourage you to keep going and to keep believing.

The book is currently free on Amazon for the next five days if you’d like to download it. If you’re interested, here’s the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B6GVKTRV/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tkin_p1_i0

Proof In Three Pictures

Sometimes it’s good to have visual proof of God’s hand at work because it’s often easy to wonder where He is or what He’s doing. Here’s my proof in three pictures:

Picture #1: A cane. This is the cane I used to walk with. Lyme disease caused me to struggle with imbalance, deep fatigue, nerve pain, complex migraines, and some other fun symptoms. For a while, I was too weak to walk on two legs, so I adopted a third and leaned on this fancy walking stick for support. Then, four years ago, God began healing me. One day, I put this cane in the closet, and it’s been there, untouched, ever since.

Picture #2: A stool. For a long time, I needed this little guy for support while washing dishes at the sink. Then, two years ago, I started feeling strong enough to stand for several minutes at a time on my own. The stool now leans against the laundry room wall instead of being something upon which I must lean.

Picture #3: My laptop computer. This was once my writing companion until intense brain fog from Lyme crept in and scattered any hope of creativity. I had to put writing on the shelf for over two years as I wrestled, prayed, and hoped God would fix my broken brain. Then, a couple months ago, the fog cleared. Now, I’m humbled to be writing again and thinking clearly without having to stumble through a mental mist every day.

I’m still in the process of healing, and this will be an ongoing journey, but these pictures are a good reminder that in God’s hands even broken things—whether a body, mind, or spirit—can still be made whole again. I’m living proof.
